Ambassador: Ethio-Britain cooperation growing

  Addis Ababa January 12/2013 Cooperation between Ethiopia and Britain has been growing from time to time in the trade and investment sectors, British Ambassador to Ethiopia, Greg Dorey said. Ambassador Dorey told ENA that Britain exports 240 million pound sterling worth products to Ethiopia annually, which is three fold that of the amount during the last six years. He said Ethiopia also exports 100 million pound sterling worth products to Britain annually, which is double that of the amount in the reported period. The Ambassador said big British companies such as Diageo Plc., which bought Ethiopian beer firm, Meta Brewery and the Cambridge Industries, Ltd, which signed agreement with the Ethiopian Electric Corporation to build the first waste-to-energy plant are engaged in investment activities in Ethiopia. The Ambassador also expressed hope that similar British companies will invest in Ethiopia in the future. Bilateral relation between Ethiopia and Britain is in good shape, Ambassador Dorey said, adding, the two countries are working in collaboration on regional and international affairs. Ethiopia benefits from significant amount of development assistance from Britain. Recently, the British government has provided 14.9 billion Birr support to Ethiopia. The cooperation between the two countries is getting strengthened in the education sector as well. Accordingly, so far some 200 Ethiopians have benefited from scholarship program, according to the Ambassador. Ethiopia and Britain began diplomatic relation in 1888EC.
