Woreda constructing over 5 mln. Birr worth safe water facilities

Maichew January 11/2013 Safe water facilities are being constructed in Endamehoni Woreda, Southern Tigray Zone with over five million Birr, the woreda water, mines and energy office said. The office told ENA on Thursday that the regional government and NGOs allocated the budget for construction of the facilities, which will benefit more than 40,000 farmers. The facilities being constructed in areas, which have no access to safe water service include, among others, digging of water wells and development of springs. It said residents are constirubing labour support for construction of the facilities. Construction of the facilities will help to increase safe water service coverage to 100 per cent from the present 52 per cent in the woreda , the office said. Twenty similar facilities constructed in the woreda with nearly two million Birr last year benefited 5000 farmers.
