Ethiopian receives award for pioneering African renaissance

  Addis Ababa January 10/2013 Ethiopian Airlines said that it has received award from President Girma Woldegiorgis for being a pioneer of the bright future of the renaissance of Africa. According to a statement Ethiopian sent to ENA, Ethiopian CEO Tewolde Gebremariam received the award at a ceremony celebrating the 89th birthday and the Diamond Jubilee of the 60 years services of the President to the country held last Tuesday. Ethiopian was given the award for continued growth and performance and for putting Ethiopia and the continent on the map by being the first airline outside of Japan to own and operate the Dreamliner. "Ethiopian Airlines, from its beginning, has been the pride of Ethiopia and Africa. Its continued excellence and performance has always been unparalleled and contributes to the development of the continent. Ethiopian recent acquisition of the Dreamliner is the crowning jewel of its close to seven decades of operation," the statement quoted President Girma as having said on the occasion. Tewolde on his part said the award is an encouragement for all Ethiopian employees to work harder and to achieve the development goals of the country, which embraces the 2025 vision of Ethiopian, the statement said. Recently, Ethiopian won Gold in the African Airline of the Year 2011/2012 Awards organized by the African Aviation News Portal. It also received the 2011 AFRAA award for being consistently profitable over the years and has won the "African Cargo Airline of the Year 2011 Award" from Air Transport Quarterly Magazine. Recently Ethiopian was awarded the "International Diamond Prize for Excellence in Quality" from the European Society for Quality Research.
