Addis Ababa November 2/2013 The Ministry of Transport said activities undertaken over the past 16 years in the road sector enabled the country to raise the road coverage to 70 percent.
Speaking on a relevant meeting held here Friday, the Minister Workneh Gebeyehu said the activities undertaken in the sector during the reported period cost the government over 142 billion Birr.
Ethiopian Roads Authority Director-General Zaid Woldegebriel on his part said the total length of road in the country has reached over 86,000km through the activities carried out during the reported period.
He said 77 percent of the 142 billion Birr, which was used for the development of the sector covered from the government's coffers while the balance was covered through loan and donors’ support.
Development partners, international financial institutes and other stakeholders took part in the day-long meeting organized to evaluate the activities and the achievements registered over the past 16 years in the road sector.
