Bahir Dar October 01/2013 Over 80 percent of construction of first phase of the Tendaho Sugar Factory being carried out in Afar State has so far finalized, Project Office said.
Office Manager Engineer Abreham Berhe told ENA on Monday that the project includes construction of a reservoir which has a capacity to hold 1.86 billion cubic meter water.
Some 14,000 hectares land has so far covered with sugarcane plantation, the Manager said.
Activities have been carried out to develop 23,000 of the total 25,000 hectares land set to develop in the first phase.
According to him, the construction of the Factory has created jobs for 35,000 people.
In its first phase, the factory will crash 13,000 tons of sugarcane and produce 13,000 quintals sugar per day.
Up on going fully operational, the factory produces 600,000 ton of sugar per year.
