Bahir Dar September 23/2013 The BahirDar Branch Office of Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority said it has intercepted contraband goods valued at over 46.7 million Birr during the previous year.
The Office told ENA that contraband goods valued at over 28.2 million Birr were intercepted while smuggling out of the country via the border town of Metema to Sudan.
It said cattle, cultural dresses, medications, cosmetics, cigarette and food items are among the goods intercepted while smuggling out of the country.
Second hand clothes, electronic goods, detergents and weapons valued at 18.4 million Birr were also intercepted while smuggling into the country, the Office said.
The Office said the value of the contraband goods intercepted during the reported period increased by 16 million Birr compared to the previous year (2004EC.).
