Bale Zone September 21/2013 Some 1071km rural roads will be constructed in Bale Zone, Oromia State at a cost of over 330 million Birr during the current Ethiopian fiscal year, the zonal roads authority office said.
Office head Demiss Ayalew told ENA that the roads interconnect 96 rural localities with main road.
The head said the roads will benefit more than 460,000 residents.
The regional government allocated over 165 million Birr of the stated sum while the public expected to cover the balance for construction of the road.
Construction of the road creates jobs for 700 citizens.
Efforts are underway to meet the plan to interconnect all rural localities with main roads until the end of the Growth and Transformation Plan period.
More than 400km rural roads constructed during the 2005E.C budget year in the zone through the Universal Rural Roads Access Program (URRAP) are giving service to the public.
