Bahir dar September 18/2013 Mines and Energy Resource Development Agency of Amhara State said it has enabled more than 1900 households benefit from solar technology in rural villages in the state during the previous Ethiopian budget year.
Public relation expert with the Agency Yohannes Bizuneh told ENA that the plan was to enable more than 5250 people benefit from the technology and activities are underway to help the remaining residents get access to the technology.
Yohannes said more than 90 graduates of technical and vocational institutions, who received relevant training, are engaged in solar technology installation to benefit the public.
Meanwhile, the regional government and a Netherlands based development agency have given prime attention to implementation of the national biogas program.
More than 910 biogas fermentation plants, which were constructed in rural areas of the state during the 2005E.C budget year through the program enabled farmers benefit from alternative energy sources.
So far a total of more than 1520 biogas plants are constructed in the state and the number of beneficiaries has reached over 7620, he said.
