Gondar September 16/2013 Over 288,000 people in North Gondar Zone in Amhara State have benefited from HIV/AIDS voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) service over the concluded budget year, the zonal HIV/AIDS prevention and control coordination office said.
The Office told ENA over the weekend that number of people who get VCT service has been increasing from time to time.
It said number of people who benefited from VCT service per annum is increased by seven fold compared to six years ago, which was only 40,000.
Over 129,000 expectant mothers have also benefited from Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART) service during the reported period.
The Office has managed to raise the public's awareness through 3,759 centers established in rural localities and schools to undertake community dialogue on HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention mechanisms.
