Assosa September 14/2013 Some 600,000 hectares land was covered with various seed in Benishangul-Gumuz State during the current main crop season (Meher), the State agriculture development bureau said.
After visiting farms in Homosha Woreda, Bureau Deputy Head, Asifaw Jaleta said the State is working to cover a total of 900,000 hectares land during the reported period.
He said the stated land was covered with maize, sorghum, haricot beans, soya beans, sweet potatoes and oil seeds.
He said farmers are developing land to cover with teff, chick peas, field peas and other varieties of fast growing plants.
According to him, State is supplying 70,000 quintals select seed, fertilizers and other inputs to develop the stated area of land.
Some 16 million quintals output is expected to harvest from the stated area, the Deputy Head said.
