Bahir Dar September 14/2013 The Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA) said it has transplanted nearly 39 million different tree seedlings during the recent main rainy season in 19 woredas of Amhara Region.
Forestry Expert with ORDA, Abraham Beyene told ENA over the weekend that the seedlings are transplanted on over 19,700 hectares depleted land in North and South Gondar, North and South Wollo as well as Oromia Zones in the State.
Abraham said some of the over 50 types of tree seedlings transplanted in collaboration with farmers are indigenous.
ORDA has carried out awareness raising activities among farmers with a view to protecting the seedlings from human and animal contact.
Meanwhile, most of the over 33 million tree seedlings transplanted by the organization on over 6700 hectares land during the previous main rainy season have already taken roots, according to the expert.
