Gondar, March 15, 2010 (Gondar) - Farmers in Takussa Woreda of North Gondar Zone, Amhara State have secured 108 million birr from the sale of spices, Woreda Agriculture and Rural Development Office said.Office head, Abiraraw Mengesha told ENA that the stated sum was obtained from the sale of 89, 000 quintals of various spices developed on 4,680 hectares of land.
The produces that include hot pepper, garlic and fenugreek exceeded to that of last year’s harvest by 17,870 quintals.
Some 10,000 farmers have been engaged in spice development. Some 330 are women farmers.
The number of farmers engaged in spice development has been increased time to time in the woreda, he said.
