Addis Ababa, March 9, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - Bob Geldof said in Nairobi, Kenya that donor organizations involved in the distribution of relief in 19984/85 famine in Ethiopia at the time had condemned BBC's recent allegation while discussing with Prime Minister Meles Zeanwi on Monday.BBC's allegation alleges that millions of pounds raised through Bob Geldof’s Live Aid concerts were diverted to fund rebel military operations in northern Ethiopia.
Bob told the premier that the allegation, which was intended to tarnish the image of Ethiopia, was absolutely groundless.
Bob further said the allegation aired by BBC was purely unprofessional.
He said the reporter who filed the news was used to advance the hidden political agenda of some quarters.
Bob said he was happy by the Economist Magazine's report that says Ethiopia has become one of the few fastest growing economies in the world.
He also expressed appreciation to the possibility created to Ethiopians to become self-supportive citizens.
Bob also expressed admiration to the role being played by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi to change the unfavorable situation related to climate change.
Meanwhile, Meles had held talks with IMF Managing Director, Strauss-Kahn on Monday.
The Director told Meles that the effort being made to collect the pledge made by the industrial nations at the Copenhagen Climate Summit was promising.
