Gov't women's policy, strategy paying off: Pres.Girma
Addis Ababa, March 7, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - President Girma Woldegiorgis said remarkable achievements have been registered in a very short time as the government ensures the participation and benefits of women.

The Second National Women Movement Conference held here on Sunday in connection with the celebration of March 8, the International Women’s Day.

On the occasion, Girma said tangible achievements have been registered in the effort to ensure participation and benefits of women in the country.

He said the results gained so far attested that the policies and strategies to ensure women rights are in the right truck.

Government has been facilitating various organizational forums to enhance the political participation, he said.

Girma urged all stakeholders to intensify effort to further enhance the participation and benefits of women.

He urged women to discharge their responsibility to make the upcoming election free, peaceful and democratic.

The celebration of the day is an opportunity for women to redouble their effort in organized manner, he said.

Women's Affairs Minister, Muferiate Kamil on her part said government is undertaking various activities to enhance the participation and ensure benefits of women in ongoing development and democratic order.

She said women in rural and urban areas have become beneficiaries and model for many others.

The day which was celebrated under the theme Let's expand best practice through organized participation of women, attracted ambassadors, senior government officials including ministers and invited guests.

President Girma inaugurated a book written based on true story that illustrated the heroic deed of women during the bitter struggle to topple down the Derg regime.

Some 300 development heroes and heroines including, entrepreneurs, ministries, outstanding universities students, compatriot, individuals who contributed a lot for women cause received awards from president Girma at the ocassion.
