Nation’s PMTCT service improves remarkably: UNAIDS executive director
Addis Ababa, July 28, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - Ethiopia has shown remarkable improvement in the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS (PMTCT), UNAIDS executive director, Michel Sidibe said.

The director visited on Wednesday St.Paul Hospital's PMTCT and other services.

On the occasion, he expressed his satisfaction with the PMTCT service provision in Saint Paul Hospital.

Hospital General Manager, Liya Tadesse on her part said more than 800 mothers are getting treatment and counseling service in the hospital, this Ethiopian year.

According to the manager, 99 percent of the newborns are born HIV free.

He said Ethiopia registered remarkable results in the health sector especially in PMTCT.

The director said the PMTCT service in general in Africa is registering great achievements.

UNAIDS allocated 11 billion USD for PMTCT through Global Fund in 2010, he said and added, Africa will get 60 percent of the budget.
