Farmers Involved In Irrigation Devt Scheme Secure 1.3 Billion Birr Income
Mekelle , July 28, 2010 (Mekele) - Farmers in North western Tigray Zone who involved in irrigation development activities scheme had obtained an over 1.3 billion Birr income during the previous crop season, the zonal administration has said.

The 51,000 farmers had managed to secure the stated amount of the income from the sale of various grains, fruits and vegetables they cultivated through irrigation, the administration told ENA on Tuesday.

The farmers were able to earn an up to 26,000 Birr income each, according to Economic Affairs Advisor with the Administration, Zakaria Shiferaw.

The number of farmers involved in the irrigation scheme has increased to 51,000 last year from only 189,000 in the preceding year.
