Addisu speaks of capacity building to ensure balanced dev’t in emerging states
Addis Ababa, February 22, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - Deputy Prime Minister Addsiu Legesse called for intensified effort in capacity building to ensure balanced development in emerging states.

Addisu noted that there is a capacity building need to ensure good governance and development in emerging states.

The Deputy PM was speaking here on Monday at mid-term review meeting on activities carried out by federal special support in the emerging states.

He said the federal government would continue its support in the area of education, health, and rural development sectors, among others.

Addisu underlined that coordinated effort should be made for the realization of development endeavors in the states.

Federal Affairs Minister Dr. Shiferaw Tekilemariam on his part said government has attached attention in expanding best experiences and building the capacity of the states.

He said the meeting will help emerging states to review the activities done in the last half year in their respective states.

He said water centered wide range of activities would be carried out in a very short time.

Chief of Benishangul Gumuz State, Ahmed Nasir on his part said the support they received from the federal government is paying off.

Chief of Gambella State, Umod Ubong on his part said the special support given by the federal government has enhanced the capacity and organizational structure of his administration.

He said the regional government has achieved encouraging results in water, good governance and education sectors

The meeting will evaluate the activities carried out in the last six months in the coming two days at the assembly hall of Prime Minister’s office.
