TPLF Celebrates 35th Founding Anniversary in Mekele
Mekele, February 18, 2010 (Mekele) - The Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF), one of the sister political parties that form the Ethiopian People Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), colorfully celebrated its 35th founding anniversary on Thursday in Mekele town of the Tigray State.

Addressing an event held in connection with the day at martyr’s monument, TPLF/EPRDF Chairman Meles Zenawi said the party has realized remarkable victories in peace, development, and democratization fields owing to the people’s bitter struggle.

Now, the premier said, the mountains of Tigray become green and farmers became more productive as ‘brightness reigns’ after the ‘time of darkness’ is gone for all.

Meles said the multiple-victories of the Ethiopian people registered so far clearly indicated that the country can realize radical changes for the better within a shortest time possible.

“The big secret of the victory of TPLF/EPRDF is that the party has remained committed in identifying the possible impediments of the armed struggle,” Meles said.

Meles also reaffirmed that the TPLF/EPRDF jointly with the peoples of Ethiopia is ready more than ever to bring about additional victories in the years ahead.

“The country has already entered into unimpeded democratic era,” he said. He urged the people on the occasion to strengthen efforts toward ensuring the victories gained so far.

Representatives from the EPRDF sister parties, Chinese Communist Party, Sudanese Government, farmers, women, youth, allied political parties, and the private sector voiced messages of congratulations to the TPLF leadership.

President, Girma Woldegiorgis and other senior federal and regional government officials were in attendance at the celebration.
