87 percent of eligible voters in E. Gojjam receive Voters' ID Cards
Debremarkos, February 9, 2010 (Debremarkos) - Some 87 percent of eligible electorates in East Gojjam Zone of the Amhara State have got registered to cast votes in the coming national elections, the zonal election coordinating office said.

Office coordinator, Zemed Zewdu told ENA that close to 870,000 of the expected 1.03 million eligible voters in the zone have so far received Voters’ ID Cards at 1,411 polling stations. More than 431,000 of the registered voters are reported to be women.

Meanwhile, he said, six contesting political parties operating in the zone fielded 164 candidates to run for the seats of the federal and regional councils.
