Addis Ababa, February 2, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - The 14th AU Summit unanimously nominated again Prime Minister Meles Zenawi to represent Africa in international fora in the coming consecutive global climate conferences.The Summit commended the leading role of PM Meles at Copenhagen Climate Conference where there was hard time to negotiate with many stakeholders.
PM Meles presented a report on the negotiation and outcome of the Copenhagen Climate Conference to the AU Summit on Monday.
The African leaders have expressed their appreciation to Meles for his outstanding contribution he made to maintain and further the benefits and interests of the Africa.
The Summit has also endorsed the Copenhagen Accord. Each member states should report their consent individually for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Meles maintained his role to represent Africa as chief negotiator in the upcoming climate change conference in Mexico this year and South Africa in 2012 consecutively.
Meanwhile, the Summit at its third day deliberation, called for concrete action due to be taken against the Eritrean government which is still busy in destabilizing the region after being sanctioned by UN Security Council.
The governments of Djibouti and Somalia said the though the UN Security Council imposed sanction on Eritrea, the country is continuing sending insurgents via their border areas.
They urged AU and international community to establish strong organization to the enforcement of the sanction to halt the mutinous act of the Eritrean government.
The Summit has also deliberated, among others, on the report presented by Chairperson of the Committee of Ten on the reform of the UN Security Council.
