Farmers obtain 12m birr from sale of vegetable
Mizan, June 20, 2009 (Mizan) -

Farmers engaged in vegetable development in Bench Madji Zone of South Ethiopia People State have secured over 12 million birr income from the sale of vegetable products, the Zonal Agriculture and Rural Development Department said.

Extension process coordinator with department Ayehu Fekadu told ENA that over 10,000 farmers participated in the vegetable development.

The farmers harvested 220, 000 quintals of onions, tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, among others, on over 2,000 hectares of land during the last five years, he said.

He said the farmers earned up to 3,200 birr each on average.

Some farmers who took part in the vegetable development said they have managed to improve their livelihoods.
