Encouraging achievements have been registered in the efforts being made to benefit pastoralists from ongoing development and good governance activities, the Liben Zone office with the Somali People Democratic Party said.

The 11th founding anniversary of the party was celebrated in Filtu town.

Speaking at the occasion, office head Abdulahi Haji Abdi said various projects in the areas of animal breeding, pasture development, health and potable water facilities have been constructed in the Zone.

The Filtu safe water project, 400-km rural road and six health stations are among the projects executed in the Zone during this Ethiopian fiscal at a cost of 300 million Birr.

Some four towns have also got access to round-the-clock electric power, wireless and mobile phone service, he said.

The projects benefited close to 800,000 people and more than 200,000 domestic animals.

The federal and the State's government have covered the budget for the execution of the projects. The public has also contributed material and free labor for the same purpose.

The head said enabling the pastoralist community to follow education in their vernacular has intensified its participation in the development activities.

About 4,000 people attended the celebration. Awards were presented to model pastoralists on the occasion.
