Ethiopia, Sudan agree to scale up bilateral cooperation in social sectors
Addis Ababa, July 4, 2009 (Addis Ababa) - Ethiopia and the Sudan signed agreements on Saturday to enable the two countries further scale up bilateral cooperation in various social service sectors.

While holding the First Ethio-Sudan Joint Social Affairs Ministerial Committee Meeting in Addis Ababa, the two sisterly countries agreed to cooperate in the fields of, among others, exchange of human resource, education, health, youth and sport, and in culture and tourism sectors.

The two parties have already signed the ‘minutes regarding three-year strategic plan and one-year action plan' of the Joint Social Affairs Committee as well as the proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) on social welfare, women, and child affairs.

Labor and Social Affairs Minister, Hassen Abdella and Sudanese Minister of Labor, Public Service and Human Resource Development, Alison Manani Magaya signed the agreement on behalf of the neighboring countries.

After signing the accord, Hassen on his part said the agreements would enable the two countries further bolster the existing bilateral relations to a higher level.

The Sudanese minister said on his part that the agreement is aiming at enhancing regional integration in the horn, where the Ethio-Sudan bilateral ties has already become a model for the same cause.

Alison Manani Magaya commends the Ethiopian government on the occasion for its firm determination toward forging closer ties between the two nations.
