Addis Ababa, February 17, 2009 (Addis Ababa) - The House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) expressed heartfelt happiness over the homecoming of the gallant Ethiopian Defense Force from Somalia after meeting its mission in that country.The parliament expressed delight over the return of the Ethiopian troops home after foiling a timely and tangible threat which was posed by the self-styled ‘Union of Islamic Courts’ against the sovereignty of Ethiopia, information and public relations department with the HPR told ENA in a statement.
It was noted that the Ethiopian defense force has been in Somalia for two years as per the decision of the HPR passed in Nov. 2006 allowing the deployment of the defense force in that country and foil the threat posed by those Islamic extremists, the statement said.
Accordingly, it said, the gallant Ethiopia defense force was able to fully discharge its national mission, ensuring the national sovereignty by reversing the provocative activities of the Islamic fundamentalists, in Somalia for the last two years.
History will always recall the heroic deeds of the Ethiopian martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in Somalia, while safeguarding the well-being of the motherland, the statement.
The parliament also expressed warmly welcome to members of the Ethiopian defense force who returned home from Somalia recently after fulfilling its mission in that country, the statement added.
