Addis Ababa, May 16, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The 17th anniversary of May 28 marks the time when the peoples of Ethiopia renew their promise pledged toward the Ethiopian renascence, the Ministry of Information said. In its weekly statement sent to ENA on Friday, the Ministry said the day would be a time for Ethiopians to further enhance the victories they are scoring regarding peace, development and democratization.
The day will be celebrated especially as one of the festivities of the Ethiopian millennium with a clear vision and hope, according to the statement.
“The day signifies our bright future to realize the renaissance of the Ethiopian peoples and the country to their historical place in which they were among the leading countries of the world,” it said.
The day marks the victorious day that opened the new chapter in history and the removal of the dangers posed against Ethiopia and its peoples, it said, the country attained an irreversible level that no political power is seized only through the ballot box.
It said as May 28 is the foundation for all these magnificent victories, the day will be colorfully celebrated under the theme “May 28: the Foundation for Ethiopian Renaissance”.
