Addis Ababa, May 14, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Ethiopian troops, who are in Mogadishu, Somalia as per the request of Transitional Federal Government of Somalia, have distributed food aid bought with their own salaries to the public, BBC reported on Wednesday. The troops have distributed about 400 bags of sorghum to about 500 people in southern Baynile district of the city.
It is recalled that Ethiopian peacekeeping missions in Burundi, Rwanda, and Liberia had made similar humanitarian assistance during their stay in the respective countries.
The governments and peoples of the aforementioned countries attested that such humanitarian activities indicate that Ethiopian government and people are duty bound.
The UN says more than a third of all Somalis rely on outside assistance and the urban poor are finding it difficult to get enough to eat.
