Addis Ababa, May 14, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Curriculums at all levels of educational institutions are being redesigned with a view to bringing about significant improvement in the quality of education, Minister of Education said.Sentayehu Woldemichael said education quality assurance package is being implemented in every regional state to ensure education quality at all stages.
The Minister was speaking here on Wednesday while presenting nine months performance report to capacity building standing committee of the House of Peoples' Representatives (HPR) .
Provision of quality education is among the priority agendas of the government. Capacity building activities as well as other necessary preparations have already been made for the same cause, he said.
Sentayehu said education enrollment has reached over 100 percent in seven regions of the country.
However, he said, the enrollment is still below 50 percent in Afar and Somali States due to the nature the regions and the life style of the inhabitants, among other reasons.
A strategy aimed at meeting the Millennium Development Goals has been designed for the stated regions.
Sentayehu said integrated activities in the education, health and water sectors would bring about the desired change in the regions.
According to the minister, efforts are being made to improve some gaps identified in technical and vocational training, secondary schools and construction of higher education institutions in the regions.
