5 million Birr fistula treatment center inaugurated
Harar, May 10, 2008 (Harar) - A fistula treatment center constructed in Harar town at cost of five million Birr was inaugurated on Friday.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Ethiopia Fistula Hospital board chairman Tekalign Gedamu said the center would provide service to fistula victims that come from eastern part of Ethiopia.

The center named after the founder of Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital Dr. Catherine Hamlin.

The center will be administerd by the Addis Ababa Fistula Foundation, he said.

An association called Attention for Fistula has solicited 300,000 USD for the construction of the center, he said.

The center, which is well equipped, can accommodate 30 patients at a time.

The Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital was founded in 1974 by Australian obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Catherine Hamlin,
