Haile Gebresselase receives honorary doctorate degree
Addis Ababa, May 4, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Leeds Metropolitan University has bestowed an honorary doctorate degree to the legend Ethiopian Athlete Haile Gebresselase.

The World Class Athlete Haile received the degree in sport science at a ceremony held here at the Addis Ababa Stadium, where the 16th African Athletics Championship is being held, in the presence of his fans.

Carnegie Faculty Sport and associate dean of the university, Malcolm Brown said the university is proud of bestowing an honorary doctorate degree to athlete Haile, who he said, is ambassador of Ethiopia and Africa to the world.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Simon Lee bestowed the degree to Haile.

Haile on his part expressed gratitude to the audience for supporting him to his priceless achievements.

Haile has broken 25 world records and won numerous Olympic and World Championship titles, and is widely considered as one of the greatest distance runners in history. He currently holds the Marathon world record

Leeds Metropolitan University is one of the largest universities in the England, with over 52,000 students and 3,500 staff.
