Ethiopia ready to contribute share in preventing climate change: Meles
Addis Ababa, March 30, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Prime Minister Meles Zenawi reaffirmed that Ethiopia is ready to play its level best preventing climate change.

Meles made the statement on Saturday while holding discussions with Director-General of Indian Energy and Resources Institute, Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri.

The premier said the country would intensify efforts geared toward utilizing alternative energy sources besides taking various measures aimed at resisting climate change.

For instance, Meles said, development of Jatropha, a plant that replaces fuel, is well in progress for the same cause, according to a senior government official who attended the discussion.

The prime minister said India’s plan to establish an institution responsible to preventing climate change would help Ethiopia and India share valuable experience on the issue.

Meles on the occasion accepted an invitation to take part in a relevant meeting in New Delhi, India in April 2008.

After the discussions, Dr. Pachauri told journalists that resisting climate change requires joint efforts of the two countries as it becomes a threat to the world.
