OPDO's 18th anniversary celebrated in Nairobi
A/A, March 27, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The 18th founding anniversary of the Oromo People's Democratic Organization (OPDO) was celebrated on Wednesday in Nairobi in the presence of diplomats with the Ethiopia embassy there and invited guests.

On the occasion, Ethiopian Special Envoy and Ambassador Plenipotentiary to Kenya, Ambassador Dissasa Diribsa said OPDO had paid remarkable sacrifices in collaboration with partner organizations in the struggle to salvaging the Oromo people from oppressive rule of the Dergue regime.

After the demise of the Dergue, he said, OPDO has been on the forefront in the democratization process in Ethiopia by which the nations, nationalities and peoples of the country have cemented their unity based on equality, and in the efforts towards accelerated development.

The anniversary, he said, was unique as it came in the wake of the new Ethiopian millennium and at a time when a monument was erected in honor of the Oromo martyrs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told ENA in a press release.
