Committee lauds activities of Haramaya University
Haramaya, March 27, 2008 (DireDawa) - Capacity Building Standing Committee of the House of Peoples’ Representatives lauded the ongoing efforts of Haramaya University to enhance the capacity of farmers side by side with discharging its responsibilities in the learning teaching process and conducting researches.

Committee representative, Wasihun Beyecha said the university has been exerting encouraging efforts to introduce improved technologies to local farmers .

The university has been undertaking commendable activities to build capacities of instructors. It has also been designing curriculums and preparing textbooks, he said.

Activities aimed at distributing improved technologies to farmers should further be strengthened in collaboration with local and foreign agriculture research centers.

The efforts of the university to open libraries near to dormitories of female students helps to empower the students and enable them actively participate in development activities

The committee urged the university on the occasion to strengthen poultry, fishery, and other similar activities aimed generating additional income.

University President, Professor Belay Kassa on his part said the university has been training over 25,000 students in 90 fields of study.

The university has continued designing curriculum with a view to launching programs that will contribute share in the efforts to speed up development.
