Ongoing development, good governance activities in Afar bearing fruits: Mohammed Tahiro
Addis Ababa, March 17, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Ongoing development and good governance activities in Afar State are registering encouraging results, Deputy Administrator of the State said.

Mohammed Tahiro told ENA that the ongoing development and good governance activities in the State would further be continued in a strengthened manner.

The pastoralist community has become beneficiaries by being engaged in agriculture side by side with animal breeding, which is the main occupation.

Regarding good governance, he said development activities have been implemented in the State after the installation of decentralized administration up to kebele level.

Accordingly, infrastructural facilities in areas of education, health, potable, water and road development have been executed.

Mohammed said enrolment which had stood only at 270 in 1985 E.C has currently reached 122,000.

The health service coverage in the State has also reached 56 percent.

Ways that would enable the pastoralist community to lead a sedentary life by being engaged in modern animal breeding and agriculture are being facilitated, according to the Deputy Administrator.
