Addis Ababa, March 9, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The Harar town municipality said it is undertaking various infrastructure development activities in the town at a cost of over 80 million Birr.Municipality Manager, Arif Mohammed told ENA that 60 million Birr of the budget allocated to speed up the overall development of the town would be used for the construction of roads.
Accordingly, construction of 15 kilometers asphalt road and seven kilometers alleys would be carried out during the current budget year, he said.
The Manager said the town's municipality advisory committee has already been established to address the social and economical problems of the residents.
The committee is monitoring the activities of the municipality and deliberates on the over all issues of the town by meeting quarterly.
The city of Harar now hosts over 250,000 inhabitants.
