Farmers save 140 million Birr
Addis Ababa, March 9, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Some 26,000 farmers have managed to save over 140 million Birr until 2007 in North Wollo Zone of Amhara State, the Amhara Credit and Saving Institution said.

Representative of the Institution, Mengistu Yalew told ENA that the farmers saved the stated amount of money in 16 branches in rural and urban areas of the zone.

Following coordinated awareness creation on credit and saving the numbers of farmers engaged in saving and credit scheme has reached to 26,687.

Some of the beneficiaries of the saving and credit service said the have managed to save over 250,000 Birr.

Extension communication expert with the zonal agriculture and rural development department, Assmamaw Wagaw for his part said the farmers’ attitude towards credit and saving has been changing owing to the education given by development agents.
