Dutch investors to establish olive oil extraction factory
Mekele, March 7, 2008 (Mekele) - Dutch investors are to establish an olive oil extraction factory in Tigray state, the state’s agricultural marketing promotion agency said.

Promotion department head with the agency, Abereham Hailu told ENA that the investors have already finalized conducting a feasibility study in two localities of the regional state to launch the construction of the factory.

The investors also held discussions with relevant officials of the regional government as to how to launch the extraction factory in the region.

The state in collaboration with the Mekele University and the State’s Agricultural Research Association envisages nurturing olive seedlings around Michew area and distribute the olive tree seedlings in different parts of the state, he said.

The investors are expected to launch the construction of the factory in July 2008, he said, the establishment of the factory would enable the country secure foreign currency from the sector besides creating jobs to lots of people living in the region.
