Assela, March 3, 2008 (Assela) - Development projects have been carried out in Zeway Dugda Woreda of Arssi Zone in Oromia State at a cost of over 10 million Birr secured from safety-net program, woreda disaster prevention and food security office said. Office head, Teshome Gemeda told ENA that over 30,000 people have become beneficiaries of the projects undertaken in 26 rural localities.
He said the projects include the construction of five farmers training centers, 740-km terrace and 292-km rural roads linking various localities, the digging of 2,000 water wells and the development of springs.
Over 5.4 million Birr loan has already been provided to about 2,500 farmers engaged in small irrigation scheme and animal fattening , he said
The head said efforts are underway to change the livelihood of the farmers by enabling them engage in various income generating activities.
