Addis Ababa, July 22, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The General Directorate for Development Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs approved 500,000 Euros fund in favour of FAO to support implementation of the project: ‘Strengthening Pastoralist and Agro-Pastoralists’ Livelihoods in Lowlands of Ethiopia’.

According to a statement the embassy sent to ENA on Tuesday, the initiative mainly aims at enhancing coordination among all the involved bodies and institutions in order to minimize any possible gap in the ongoing humanitarian programs.

The statement said the initiative also aims at further promoting better use of all available resources to meet people’s basic needs.

Moreover, the project intends to promote planning systems in the water resources and pastoralist sectors, as well as to start a veterinary assistance network in the areas of Gambella and Oromia regions.

It said envisaged activities include capacity building for local agriculture institutions, gathering information on the agriculture sector, as well as drafting and implementation of emergency projects.

Furthermore, technical support and pharmaceutical supplies will be provided to veterinaries.
