Ministry, Nori-la sign 20m Brr. inland port project contract
A/A, January 29, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - A 20 million Birr dry port construction contract has been signed between the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Nori-la Engineering Construction, an Ethio-China private joint venture company. At a site near Mojjo, about 70-km to the east of Addis Ababa, the future inland intermodal terminal comprises a storage, depot, container maintenance and customs clearance as well as banking and insurance services.

Minister Juneidi Sado and Nori-la Deputy General Manager Wang Dongwei signed the agreement.

According to the Ministry's statement, Juneidi emphasized the need for the contractors to complete the project according to agreed timetable.

The inland port is meant to complement Ethiopia's economic growth through a more efficient import-export maritime services hub to Southern and Western Ethiopia.

There is plan to construct another dry port near Semera, capital of the Afar State.

The present agreement provides for the Mojjo dryport construction to be carried out on a 61.33 hectare site.

The construction is due to complete in July 2008. Juneidi said his ministry
