EOC to hold event as part of new Ethiopian Millennium celebration
Addis Ababa, January 29, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The Ethiopian Orthodox Church (EOC) is to hold an event called “Experience of the Church”, Zekere-Betekeristian, on 02 Feb. 2008 as part of the on-going celebration of the new Ethiopian millennium.

Office of the Patriarchate told ENA on Tuesday that the event would be held on Saturday in order to show that Ethiopia is a cradle of civilization and to honor the contribution of the religious leaders of the church toward the overall development of the country.

As part of the event, EOC patriarch would be honor and awarded for his role toward enabling Ethiopia become president of the World Council of Churches (WCC).

The church is to award President Girma Woldegirogis and Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi in recognition to their contributions toward ensuring peace and development across the nation as well as in guaranteeing religious freedom in Ethiopia.

The faithful and citizens here and abroad have been celebrating the new Ethiopian millennium as a historical phenomenon of the nation.

The church is celebrating the millennium taking into account the contribution of the celebration toward the social, spiritual, economic development of the country, the office said.
