Close 2 million voters registered in two zones, city of Amhara State
Gondar, January 29, 2008 (Gondar) - More than a million electorates in North Gonder Zone of the Amhara State were registered to cast votes in the upcoming local and national by-elections, the zonal election board said.

Election coordinator, Bitwoded Tesfaye told ENA that the stated number of voters have taken Voters’ IDs at 1,673 polling stations established in different parts of the zone.

More than 50 percent of the registered voters are females, he said, there are some 1.3 million eligible voters in the zone.

Similarly, about 720,000 voters in West Gojjam Zone and in Bahir Dar City of the Amhara State were registered to cast votes in the forthcoming elections, the zonal election board said.

Election coordinator, Jember Workneh said the stated number of electorates have received Voters’ IDs at 1,500 polling stations until 28 Jan. 2008.

According to the coordinator, there are close to 960, 000 eligible voters in the zone and in the city.
