Coalition says commited to fight HIV/AIDS, harmful practices
DireDawa, January 25, 2008 (DireDawa) - First lady Azeb Mesfin reaffirmed commitment of the National Coalition for Women Against HIV/AIDS in fighting HIV/AIDS and harmful traditional practices.

Speaking at a public discussion in DireDawa Azeb Mesfin said every women should engage in fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS.

She said the coalition provides awareness raising originations in every regional state on the grim realties associated with harmful traditional practices on women.

Azeb called upon every citizen to join the coalition in its efforts to fight against HIV/AIDS and its impacts on women.

The coalition works in collaboration with concerned bodies to enable expectant mothers receive HIV tests and give birth to healthy children.

DireDawa interim Administration Mayor, Ahmed Mohamed on his part said women are particularly vulnerable to HIV/AIDS through harmful traditional practices.

He said every citizen should contribute to alleviate the problem.

Over 1,000 mothers, young women, administrative bodies at locality level, governmental and non governmental organizations have attended the discussion.
