Mekele, January 21, 2008 (Mekele) - The 33rd founding anniversary of Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) will be celebrated in February with various programs to be staged at Dedebit, a place in Tigray where TPLF launched armed struggle against the Derg regime, the political office of the Front announced. In a statement he gave in Mekele city on Monday, head of the office Tewodros Hagos said the Front, amidst preparations for the anniversary, calls upon members and supporters to enhance their participation in the efforts of maintaining the ongoing democratization and good governance endeavors.
He expressed renewed commitments of the Front to be contributing to nationwide efforts of sustaining the economic growth the country has registered for the fifth year in a row, an attainment he said has been registered through EPRDF's able leadership and the active participation of the people.
The building of democracy and good governance does not come about overnight, he said and expressed the Front's commitment to work hand in glove with the public to help the country reach targets.
He said the Front will continue efforts of public mobilization through a number of measures including the holding of public conferences at rural and urban areas.
The people of Tigray, he said, would determined to the fight against poverty as they had done against oppression during decades of armed struggle that brought about the demise of the Derg regime.
TPLP would colorfully mark the occasion in collaboration with partner organizations and the people with renewed commitments to help realize Ethiopia's renaissance in the new millennium.
