Ministry says enhancing justice reform efforts vital to fulfill society’s quest for justice
Addis Ababa, January 18, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The Ministry of Information said the quest of the society for the justice will be fulfilled through enhancing the ongoing efforts to reform the justice system and to realize the country’s renaissance.

In statement issued on Friday the Ministry said he government of Ethiopia has attached due attention to the justice system in a bid to ensure citizens human and constitutional rights.

The Ministry said a reform program for the justice system is being implemented at all the courts throughout the country in a bid to make the courts more accessible, effective and efficient legal institutions.

Through the reform program, the justice system is reorganized to provide modernized and professionally competent legal services, it said.

The Ministry said currently courts have launched new systems meant to provide efficient service within considerably minimized durations for handling client’s cases.

The Ministry also said as part of the over all reform programs for the justice system, the efforts made to bring about integrated and coherent activities among the police, public prosecutors and courts are of central vitality.

The government has been successful in addressing the shortage of judges, the Ministry said and added that about 2,400 professionally qualified judges are currently assigned to serve the society across the country.
