Agency keen to enhance smooth information flow nationwide: Official
Addis Ababa, January 3, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The Ethiopian Information Communication Technology Development Agency (EICTDA) said multifaceted infrastructural development activities have been well in progress in order to enhance smooth flow information across the nation.

Agency Director General, Debretsion Gebremicheal told ENA that wide-ranging activities are underway to realize effective and up-to-date ICT in a bid to facilitate development of the health, education, agriculture, trade and investment, and other sectors as well as strengthening good governance in the country.

Expanding of information and communication technology across the country will help citizens to obtain reliable and timely information on socio-economic activities as well as on the overall development of the country.

In the health sector, he said, Black Lion and Nekemet Hospitals are connected through information network with Indian referral hospital with a view to obtaining professional assistance from the latter through telemedicine program.

More than 570 secondary and preparatory schools located in different parts of the country have become beneficiaries from SchoolNet, which, he said, will contribute a lot to improve quality of education.

Moreover, he said, Addis Ababa and Haromaya Universities are networked with Indian higher learning institution to enhance cooperation in the education sector.

He said networking of the nine state-owned universities is also in progress with a view to enabling the universities offer integrated postgraduate programs to trainees.

The director said all woredas of the nation are networked with federal and regional administrative structures through WoredaNet with a view to rendering efficient services to the public.
