Encouraging results registered in HIV/AIDS interventions: Secretariat
Addis Ababa, February 19, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The National HIV/AIDS Prevention Secretariat said it has managed to bring about encouraging results in HIV/AIDS prevention activities.

Surveillance and Evaluation Department Head with the Secretariat Dr. Afework Kassa said dozens of people living with the virus have been benefiting from anti-retroviral treatment.

He made the statement while addressing a meeting organized to discuss the findings of HIV/AIDS studies for various stakeholders that got underway here on Tuesday.

He further said the number of health facilities who provide the treatment has also increased to over 300 now from only 63 in the past.

The meeting would evaluate various HIV/AIDS interventions and studies conducted in the area, which can serve as input for policy makers and organizations engaged in HIV/AIDS interventions.

Some 100 representatives from the Ministry of Health, governmental and non-governmental organizations, among others, took part in the meeting.
