Shire-endasellasie, February 19, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) chairman Meles Zenawi has called on the young generation to live up to the promise left them by the martyrs to make poverty history.Meles made the call at the colorful celebration at Shire Endaselassie of the 33rd founding anniversary of TPLF. TPLF/EPRDF should repeat in the fight against poverty the same level of determination shown during the armed struggle.
Celebrating the TPLF founding anniversary, he said, "we take pride at the fruits of the armed struggle and renew our commitments for yet more development gains".
"TPLF/EPRDF is forever young," he said, adding this is evident in the tranfer of the ideals to the young generation smoothly.
The young generation should contribute its share in the all-out efforts to realize Ethiopia's renaissance, he said.
Representative of the Martyrs' families on the occasion expressed the determination of the martyrs' families to redouble their efforts to take to the successful end the promises made by the martyrs.
At the celebration, Meles laid a cornerstone for the construction of a martyrs' monument.
Meles also held discussions with community representatives drawn from various woredas of the Tigray State and invited guests on social and economic issues.
