104 party, independent contestants to compete for federal parliamentary seats
Addis Ababa, February 15, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Some 104 contestants from the Addis Ababa City Administration would compete for federal parliamentary seats, the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia said.

Addis Ababa Electoral Coordinator with the Board Desta Hailemicheal told ENA on Friday that 13 of the contestants are female.

Some of the candidates represent 12 different political parties while others are independent contestants, among others.

EPRDF, CUD, the All Ethiopian National Movement, the Ethiopian Democratic Unity Party -Medhin, the Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement, the Oromo National Congress and the Ethiopian Democratic Union are parties that delegated their contestants.

Some 461 candidates will compete for the Addis Ababa City Council seats of whom 111 of are women.

The NEBE said the registration of candidates who will compete in the bi-national election and local election would end at 6:00 PM on Friday.
