Council Discusses, Passes Decisions On Four Agreements
Addis Ababa, February 15, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The Council of Ministers discussed and passed decisions on two loan and two cooperation agreements in its session held here on Friday.

The Council discussed the 41 million USD agreement signed between the Ethiopian government and the International Development Association (IDA) for the implementation of the Ethio-Sudan Power Inter-connection project.

According to a press statement sent to ENA by the Office of the Prime Minister on Friday, the agreement would have a significant importance for securing foreign exchange earning to the country by exporting power to neighboring countries.

Accordingly, the Council referred the bill to the House of Peoples Representatives for approval after its endorsement.

The Council had also approved a bill ratifying an over 115.3 million USD agreement signed between the Ethiopian government and IDA which will be used for the implementation of rural electric power expansion project.

The agreement would enable 265 rural towns to get access to electricity, the statement indicated.

The Council referred the bill to the House for approval.

It also approved and referred a bill to ratify the agreement signed between the Ethio-Spanish and Ethio-Portuguese governments in education, culture and tourism sectors, among others.
