Addis Ababa, February 15, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Federal Parliamentary Speaker Ambassador Teshome Toga said the performance of the parliament was excellent in the last four months.
In a news conference he gave here on Friday, Ambassador Teshome said the parliamentary sessions were more participatory, democratic and open during the reported period.
Various directives were issued in the last four months, he said.
The Advisory Affairs Committee of the House has approved three draft manuals during the reported period.
The House has approved 12 laws and referred others to pertinent standing committees for further scrutiny in its 16 regular sessions held during the stated period, he said.
Ambassador Teshome said the laws mainly deal with the establishment of governmental institutions and the approval the various agreements Ethiopia signed with its partners.
A bill governing the registration of political parties is also included among the laws that were endorsed by the House, he said.
According to Teshome, the bills will enable political parties to get financial subsidy from the government in order to be able to promote their peaceful cause.
Ambassador Teshome said the House has also provided capacity building training to Members of Parliaments.
